Exemplary faculty at SDSC honoured for outstanding teaching performance
Professor Linyan LI, an Assistant Professor of the School of Data Science, has received the recognition of her outstanding teaching performance (top 5% of teachers) in Semester B (AY2022/23) from the Office of the Provost and Deputy President. This prestigious award honours academics who get high scores in Teaching and Learning Questionnaire (TLQ), and with at least 35% response rate.
Professor Li's current research focuses on two main areas: environmental health, including environmental epidemiology, spatial analysis, and health impact assessment, and healthcare big data analytics, such as precision medicine and real-world evidence.
"It is a great honor to receive this recognition. I enjoy teaching, and my philosophy of teaching is to promote active learning and maintain a friendly, supportive class so that the university becomes a joyful place for everyone to learn. I believe that encouraging active participation and engagement empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey. By incorporating interactive activities, group discussions, and hands-on experiences, I aim to foster a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate with peers, and apply their knowledge in practical ways," Professor Li said.
"I believe that it is the teacher's responsibility to inspire a love for learning and provide students with the tools and skills they need to thrive academically and personally. I strive to create a positive and joyful atmosphere in the class that not only encourages academic achievement but also nurtures a passion for lifelong learning."
Congratulations to Professor Li who is placed on CityU’s top 5% list because of her exemplary teaching and passion about nurturing students!
