The Department of Data Science is delighted to welcome Prof. John Spengler, Akira Yamaguchi Professor of Environmental Health Habitation, and Co-Director of the JPB Environmental Health Fellowship at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, as a Distinguished Visiting Professor.
With over 40 years of pioneering research in environmental health and exposure science, Prof. Spengler is internationally recognized for advancing our understanding of how contaminants in indoor and outdoor environments impact human health. His work spans homes, schools, offices, and transit systems, focusing on design, materials, and behaviors that mitigate harmful exposures. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, he led critical studies on airborne virus transmission and mitigation.
Prof. Spengler’s recent research explores the health benefits of exposure to nature, including the use of Virtual Reality to study its effects indoors and outdoors. A passionate advocate for sustainability, his work increasingly addresses climate change challenges, inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and involves collaborations to develop impactful, evidence-based solutions.
During his visit, Prof. Spengler will engage with our community through seminars, workshops, and discussions, enriching our scholarship in environmental health, sustainability, and data science. We warmly invite everyone to participate in this exciting week.
