Biography 

Prof. LIN Jing is a Professor of Practice at the Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong. She is a preeminent leader in the global technology ecosystem, bringing nearly twenty years of distinguished leadership in enterprise AI strategy and data science.  

Prior to joining CityUHK, Prof. Lin held several high-profile executive positions, including Chief AI and Data Scientist at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Head of Big Data at Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance, Director of Strategy and Operations for Baidu’s FinTech initiatives, Senior Manager of Cigna Asia Pacific, and Chief Data Scientist of Aegon Asia.

Prof. Lin possesses profound theoretical depth and an exceptional command of translating nascent technologies into robust, scalable business solutions. She has spearheaded the construction of multiple overseas and internal digital innovation subsidiaries and Internet insurance platforms from the ground up. Her AI-driven systems have become benchmarks for efficiency in the financial and manufacturing sectors. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to driving digital transformation, she was awarded the prestigious "Harvard Business Review" Digital Transformation Special Award in 2019.

Beyond her corporate leadership, Prof. Lin holds significant influence in industry associations and alliances. She serves as a Council Member of the Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, a Committee Member of the Digitalization Specialized Committee of the Global Finance Leaders Forum, and the Co-founder and CTO of the Silicon Valley China CIO Alliance, architecting a premier platform that bridges C-suite leadership across the Greater China region. She is also the Chief Advisor and Scientist for the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), shaping the global dialogue on AI governance and innovation. At CityUHK, she has leveraged her immense industry influence by spearheading the establishment of the Quantum Intelligence Industry Alliance and the Quantum Computing Center, catalyzing digital transformation at an institutional level.

Prof. Lin received her Bachelor of Science degree in Science and Statistics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and her Ph.D. degree in Finance from the City University of Hong Kong. She has maintained strong ties with academia, having served as an Adjunct Professor at the Computing School of CityUHK, a Researcher Fellow at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and an industry tutor at the Business School of USTC.

Prof. Lin's research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, big data, and their practical applications in industry. Her primary areas of interest include cloud-native architecture, distributed analytics, intelligent optimization, and federated learning. She is particularly dedicated to AI-driven digital transformation for traditional industries, such as financial services and hospitality. Her work involves developing customer spatiotemporal behavior prediction and recommendation systems, as well as models for medical and disease risk prevention prediction.

Biography 

Prof. CAI Kevin is a Professor of Practice at the Department of Data Science, City University of Hong Kong. Prior to that Kevin served as Chief Information Officer at Hospital Authority Hong Kong and China Eastern Airlines for 16 years, spearheaded technology-for- business strategy and innovations in world class healthcare and aviation industries. 

By partnering closely with clinical and hospital experts, Kevin made significant impact to address healthcare pain-points and transform service models for Hong Kong’s public health service provisioning.  Including upgrading territory wide public hospitals to smart hospitals, modernizing experience-based workflow to AI-enabled service, moving traditional hospital-centric services to patient-centric digital services.

Kevin architected Innovation Labs in Data, AI, Mobile and Smart Hospitals areas to nurture new technology skills and pull together teams of geek technologist and hospital clinicians to create corporate wide innovative solutions. Since 2019, the Hospital Authority Data Collaboration Lab has supported 400 researchers completing 70 large scale research projects.

As CIO of China Eastern Airlines, Kevin rebuilt the entire IT capability for the company, and successfully led the airlines’ digital transformation,  resulting in the airlines achieving World’s 5th largest and one of the most profitable airlines since 2011.

He had served in IDC APJ CXO Council, as advisor to several international and Government Authorities.  He was awarded CIO of Year 2022 by IDC Asia/Pacific, and received 3 times China’s Top CIO or Most Valuable CIO Awards.

As an industry expert Kevin advised IBM Global Executive as Board of Advisor for 4 years since 2011, and took up Board Directorship in International companies such as SITA and Travelsky.  He obtained Executive MBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), and received a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence from Monash University Australia.

Biography 

Prof. CHOW Man-kong is Senior Advisor to the Provost and Deputy President and Professor of Practice to the Department of Data Science of the City University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Chow received his PhD in economic sociology from the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong, as well as a postgraduate diploma in education from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (First Class Hons) from Hong Kong Baptist University. Prior to joining CityUHK, Prof. Chow was an Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement), Executive Co-Director of the Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures, and Programme Leader of Executive Master of Public Administration and Leadership (EMPAL) of The Education University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Chow’s areas of research interest include Chinese regional economic development, economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong, applied public policy, Chinese family businesses, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the development of higher education. He has been involved in a substantial number of policy research reports and more than 10 publications. Prof. Chow is also frequently invited to give lectures on applied public policy, Chinese regional economies and higher education development.

Prof. Chow is currently a Member of Expert Group, Chief Executive's Policy Unit, Hong Kong SAR Government; Member, Panel of Advisors to Committee on Education, Technology and Talents, Hong Kong SAR Government and the committee member of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies. He puts forward and advises on public policies related to economic, Industrial and education development.
