The Department of Data Science (DS) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) will host a DS Distinguished Seminar featuring Prof. Cesare ALIPPI from the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Switzerland, and the Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Prof. Alippi will deliver a talk entitled “Graph Deep Learning for Irregular Spatiotemporal Data.”

Irregular spatiotemporal data are collected asynchronously across time and space, making many traditional sequence and Euclidean-based methods less effective. In this seminar, Prof. Alippi showed how graph deep learning leverages relational structure for both imputation and prediction, reconstructing missing values via spatiotemporal consistency, forecasting from sparse inputs, and inferring virtual sensors with exogenous information.

Prof. Alippi is Professor at USI and Professor at Politecnico di Milano, and he also serves as Visiting Professor at the Guangdong University of Technology (China) and Consultant Professor at the Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an (China). He has held visiting appointments at institutions including UCL, MIT, ESPCI, CASIA, A*STAR, and the University of Kobe.

DS thanks Prof. Alippi for his visit and for the engaging interaction with our faculty and students.
