The Department of Data Science at City University of Hong Kong successfully hosted the 2026 INFORMS Conference on Quality, Statistics, and Reliability — ICQSR 2026 from 5 to 9 July 2026 at CityUHK. As the first international conference hosted by the Department, ICQSR 2026 marked an important milestone in strengthening the Department’s academic presence and international engagement.
With the theme “AI for Quality & Reliability”, the conference attracted nearly 200 participants from various countries and regions, including Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Korea, the United States, Singapore, Macao SAR, Taiwan (China), and Europe. The event provided an international forum for scholars, researchers, students, and industry practitioners to exchange ideas and discuss research innovations in quality improvement, statistical learning, reliability assurance, and AI-driven applications.
The conference programme featured plenary speeches, workshops, parallel sessions, the ICQSR Best Paper Competition, the Data Challenge Workshop, the Future Faculty Colloquium, laboratory tours, networking events, and the ICQSR 2026 banquet and ceremony. Key speakers included Prof. Jianjun SHI, Prof. Kwang-jae Kim, Prof. Lixin TANG, Prof. Zhaoyang DONG and Dr. Lawrence CHEUNG.
The conference was chaired by Prof. Jianjun SHI from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Prof. Jianping WANG from City University of Hong Kong. The honorary chairs were Prof. C. F. Jeff WU from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Prof. Lixin TANG from Northeastern University. The Organization Committee Co-Chairs included Prof. Ershun PAN from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Jian LIU from the University of Arizona, and Prof. Zijun ZHANG from City University of Hong Kong.
The successful hosting of ICQSR 2026 represents a proud achievement for the Department of Data Science. It demonstrates the Department’s commitment to promoting research excellence, interdisciplinary exchange, and international collaboration. Building on this milestone, the Department looks forward to organizing more academic events and continuing to contribute to the advancement of data science and related fields.
